Saturday in the stepping stones of crypto, Bitcoin (BTC) was at $38,750 when the day started, then gradually fell to $38,250 by midday. The second half was mostly uneventful for BTC, which stayed rangebound around the aforementioned price level, before falling to $38,000 where it would find support going into Sunday. Bitcoin, now down 7% for the week, has a marketcap of $726 billion. Bitcoin dominance, meanwhile, is at 39.9% versus all cryptoassets, after going up by .3% in the last 24 hours.
Ether (ETH) was dancing around $2,825 when the clock turned Saturday, and, like “Bit” brother, traded in sideways fashion in the first quarter (first six hours), before gradually falling to $2,800 by midday. In the second half, it looked like ETH was going to hang on to support at that level as it stayed rangebound in the third quarter, but slipped and fell to $2,775 late in the day where it would retire. Ether, now down 7% for the week like BTC, has a marketcap of $337 billion.
While it was not a horrible day for BTC and ETH in the grand scheme of things, the altcoin sector's awful start to the weekend was unavoidable, with more than 90% of the ‘Top 100’ assets-by-value closing as losers.
To make things worse, almost 20% of that list closed the day down in double-digit percentages, which included, in order of larger-sized marketcap assets first, the following assets: ApeCoin (APE) went down 24%, Uniswap (UNI) down 11%, Filecoin (FIL) down 14%, Internet Computer (ICP) down 10%, The Sandbox (SAND) down 12%, Decentraland (MANA) down 13%, STEPN (GMT) down 11%, Klatyn (KLAY) down 10%, THORChain (RUNE) down 12%, Fantom (FTM) down 17%, Helium (HNT) down 12%, Chain (XCN) down 10%, NEXO (NEXO) down 12%, Zilliqa (ZIL) down 14%, Gala (GALA) down 13%, Enjin Coin (ENJ) down 11%, Synthetix (SNX) down 11% and Harmony (ONE) went down 14% to wrap up another day in crypto. The total marketcap of all cryptoassets, meanwhile, is at $1.817 trillion.
