Wednesday in the windfall wonderment of crypto, Bitcoin (BTC) was on its way down from $55,350 when “hump day” began, bouncing off support at $54,750 early in the first quarter (first six hours). From there, “Bit” skyrocketed up the chart all the way above $57,000 with two hours left in the first half. In the second half of the day, BTC continued to surge, positioning itself above $58,000 leading into the fourth and final quarter. In the final hours, BTC kept the momentum going till it was trading at almost $58,200 with a few hours left in the night. It was at this point, however, that the bears came back into the picture, selling off the “orange coin” till it went rolling back down the chart to $57,750 going into Thursday. Bitcoin, after a strong day in the markets, is now up 4% for the week, 28% for the month and 406% for the year, while its marketcap is at $1.090 trillion. Meanwhile, Bitcoin dominance is at 43.9%, down only .1% since the previous day.
When Wednesday started for Ether (ETH), the second-largest crypto asset by marketcap was trading at around $3,450, but it was not long before it too went surging up the chart. By midday, ETH was well above $3,500 and had its sights on $3,600 with momentum on its side. Sure enough, a few hours into the third quarter, ETH positioned itself above $3,600 and continued on an upward trajectory, managing to defend its position above $3,600 for the rest of the day, even climbing to $3,630 before the night was through. Ether is now up 1% for the week, 10% for the month and 852% for the year, with its marketcap at $428 billion.
After three consecutive days of the ‘Top 100’ altcoins by marketcap closing day in the red, Wednesday ended with a different outcome for the bunch, with 80% of the projects ending the day with gains. Of that list, there were eight double-digit winners and no losers. The big winners of the day were, in order of larger-sized marketcap assets first, as follows: Polkadot (DOT) went up 20%, Stellar (XLM) up 11%, VeChain (VET) up 14%, Waves (WAVES) up 15%, Kusama (KSM) up 17%, Celo (CELO) up 11%, Telcoin (TEL) up 28% and Curve DAO Token (CRV) went up 12% to wrap up the day. The total marketcap of all the crypto assets, meanwhile, including BTC and ETH, went up 4.4% in the last 24 hours and is now at around $2.481 trillion.
